Haleh Zandi joined Pisces Foundation in 2022 and worked in partnership with ClimateWorks Foundation to launch FAST Ports in 2023. Prior to joining Pisces Foundation, Haleh organized for over a decade in East Oakland, one of the communities hardest hit by toxic air quality, where she co-founded a non-profit organization called Planting Justice. As the Board Chair of Planting Justice, Haleh continues to work alongside systems-impacted community members to develop the organization that now owns and operates 4 commercial properties on a total of 11 acres across the San Francisco East Bay. In 2018, Haleh was honored to be a part of the process to rematriate land back to the Ohlone people in partnership with the Indigenous women-led organization, Sogorea Te’ Land Trust. Building upon her work with Planting Justice, Haleh helped to develop a national collaborative called EFOD, Equitable Food Oriented Development, which is a multiracial coalition of food systems leaders organizing across the U.S. to resource community-based food justice development initiatives. More than a decade ago, Haleh co-founded a 13-acre land-based community that demonstrates low-carbon earthen home construction, healthy watershed management, and community-scale food security. Haleh believes there is a great urgency for us to address the intersecting climate, public health, and equity crises our society faces, and she greatly values the opportunity to be a part of an impactful philanthropic program working to catalyze new investments towards black carbon mitigation in alignment with social movements for climate and environmental justice.
